Parkano station has been operational for both passenger and freight traffic since 1971. Located on the Tampere-Seinäjoki and Niinisalo-Kihniö railway sections, it serves over 90,000 passengers annually and is less than 100 kilometers from well-known places like Haapamäki.

The railway system consists of 3 platform tracks. Due to proximity, some of the passenger trains between Tampere and Seinäjoki stop at Parkano railway station. However, there are also regular connections to Helsinki, Vaasa, Oulu and Tampere. In fact, there are also night trains to Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi.
Tracks 2 and 3 are generally not in use unless there is an exceptional situation. Therefore, most trains run on track 1. As mentioned above, Parkano railway station is also used for the transport of goods such as raw timber.

Only ONE Ticket Machine Available
Previously there were VR (Finnish Railways) ticket offices where passengers could buy tickets. These ticket offices no longer exist. In 2007, one of the ticket machines was removed, so there is only one machine left inside the station where you can buy train tickets. See our detailed guide on Finnish trains here.

Waiting Room Available
In addition, you can use the waiting room, which is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
No Auto-Train Parking Service
There is currently no parking service on the train. If you need this service, you can use large stations such as Helsinki Central Station. If you don’t want to go there, you can call customer service and find out about it before going to the station.
