Tampere train currently has three platforms. Two of them are covered. There are a total of five tracks, which are divided into lower tracks. Tracks 1 and 2 operate mainly to the south (Helsinki) and to the north (Vaasa, Oulu and Seinäjoki). Tracks 3-5 operate mainly in the eastern parts of the country (Haapamäki and Jyväskylä) and in the western parts (Pori and Turku).

Public transport lines have, of course, been expanded on several different lines. For example, on Hämeenkatu, Itsenäisyydenkatu and Rautatenkatu. The first one has a tram stop that you can use depending on your destination.

However, train routes run to other stations in Finland. So you can visit, for example, the following places:

Mainly south to Helsinki and north to Vaasa, Oulu, and Seinäjoki

Mainly east to Haapamäki and Jyväskylä, and west to Pori and Turku

Finnpark P-Asema is a ticketless parking house located right next to the railway station on Rautatienkatu. Parking starts automatically using license plate recognition, and you can access Tampere railway station directly from the two-story P-Asema via a tunnel.

Finnpark’s Aseman kansi is located on top of the P-Asema parking building and offers direct access to platform 1 of the station. Aseman kansi is an area comparable to street parking, where you can pay for parking immediately at the payment machine with a bank or credit card.

P-Hämppi and Other Sites

In front of the station (Asema-aukio) there are also 30 paid customer spaces, and you can also use the P-Hämppi parking facility with 972 car spaces for parking. P-Hämppi is Tampere’s largest parking facility, which extends from the edge of Tullintori all the way to Hämeensilta and is open 24 hours a day. There are also 6 charging points for electric cars operated by Parkkisähkö.

There is a dedicated space for cars carried by passengers. The vehicle loading area is located on the north side of the railway station, only at Rautatienkatu 21, 33100 Tampere.

We recommend that you arrive at the station on time due to loading times and available departure times. The service is available Monday to Friday from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Here are a few things you shouldn’t miss:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before the loading time starts
  • Hand over your keys 30 minutes before the loading time indicated on your ticket to the platform office on platform 1 in the station building
  • Print your ticket and attach it to the keys. You can also add personal information about the owner (name, phone number, destination station…) and the car (make, model, registration number…)

If you don’t want to carry your luggage to different places at Tampere station, you can store it in luggage storage lockers. They are located inside the station and can be reserved for 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, or up to 72 hours.

At Tampere railway station, the price of a smaller storage locker is three euros per day. A larger locker that can swallow a suitcase can be used for four euros per day.

Although the city center end of the Station Tunnel has been emptied, the Asematunnel Eyeglasses, Hairdresser Diva, Potretti-Paja, and Pizzeria La Gare located at the other end are still operating.

One of the best-known station cafés is Brander, which has operated at the corner of the Station Tunnel at the end of Hämeenkatu since 1989. March 2022 marked one year in the new location along the corridor of the station building. Brander’s new location is along a busier route, so there are plenty of customers. The café sells a lot of savory pastries that are products of its own bakery.

The station café offers a wide selection of filled rolls, pizzas, and pastries. Robert’s Coffee is open Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. A cheese roll costs €4.90.

Asemamestari pub is a favorite place for travelers, but Tampere residents have also found their way there. The pub regularly has live music. Between Subway and Asemamestari pub is a very popular R-kiosk, which is almost always open at the railway station.

Tampere railway station has a lot of choice if you’re looking for a bite to eat or coffee on your trip. The station is worth visiting for treats even if you’re not traveling by train!
