It is one of Finland’s railway stations. Pieksämäki, also known by the abbreviation Pm, carries more than 100,000 passengers annually. The Kouvola-Iisalmi, Jyväskylä-Pieksämäki and Pieksämäki-Joensuu railway lines often pass through this station.

Routes / Trains

The railway system consists of four platform tracks (tracks 1, 3, 4 and 6) and one fixed track (track 5). Generally, the main tracks go to Jyväskylä and Kouvola (tracks 3 and 5). As far as I remember, however, trains to Kouvola, Iisalmi, Jyväskylä and Joensuu pass through here.

The train departure tracks operate as follows:

  • Track 1 – The first two morning trains go to Kouvola and six others to Kuopio.
  • Track 3 – Runs to Helsinki via Jyväskylä.
  • Track 4 – Five trains run to Helsinki via Kouvola and three trains to Kuopio.
  • Track 6 – Used for local trains from Joensuu.

Train Tickets

Previously, there were VR service points where you could buy tickets. Now you can only get a ticket from the ticket machine located at the station. It is specifically in the air locker of the station building. Available between 05:00-22:45.

Remember that there are different tickets depending on how often you use this transport service, or what features you are looking for. Here are the options available to you:

  • Single tickets
  • Temporary tickets
  • Series tickets
  • Night train ticket and bus ticket
  • Interrail tickets
  • Escort ticket (free under certain conditions)
  • Meeting and group travel tickets

The last option is to get train tickets through the VR Matkalla mobile app. It is available from both App Store for iOS and Play Store for Android.

Parking Spaces on Train and Luggage Parking at Station

Some stations along the Finnish railway have parking spaces on the train. However, Pieksämäki does not have the possibility to take your car on the trip. If you want this service, you can go to Helsinki Central Station or some other station that offers it.

Luggage parking is also not available. Unfortunately, you will have to take your luggage with you to activities both at and outside the railway station.

Currently, there are no luggage lockers where you can store your luggage and other belongings. If you are going to a museum, restaurant or other venue, you must keep your belongings with you at all times. This is ideal if you want to board the train quickly when you arrive at Pieksämäki station.

Pieksämäki station aims to provide the highest possible comfort. For example, it has public toilets and an attendant service inside the station. If you need this service, it is good to know that the point is located on platform 1, right at the corner of the station building, in the immediate vicinity of the parking lot.
