National Long-Distance Tickets
1. Free Travel
- Children under 4 years: Travel free on domestic long-distance trains without their own seat. If you want a seat for your child, you must buy a child ticket.
2. Discounts
- Children 4-17 years: Get 40% discount on single long-distance tickets as well as multi and season tickets. Minimum ticket price is €3.
3. Night Trains with Sleeping Accommodation
- Children 0-10 years: Can travel free of charge by sharing a bed with another passenger. They do not need their own ticket, but this must be reported to customer service at 0600 41 900 (€2/call + price/moment). There are no discounts on the night train cabin.
VR Local Traffic Tickets
1. Free Travel
- Children under 7 years: Travel free on VR local trains.
- Escort with stroller or wheelchair: Person carrying a child under 7 in a stroller, pram or wheelchair also travels free in local traffic.

Interrail Children’s Tickets
Children under 12 travel free with an adult who has an Interrail ticket. A maximum of two children under 12 can travel free with each adult.
